Bo’ness ASC sent 7 swimmers through for the East District Grand Prix at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh for the 2nd and 3rd of June. This was a three session competition with morning heats and finals and an afternoon session for the under 16’s.

Both Kayrinne Kelly (16) and Duncan Scott (15) had been invited as part of the Scottish Swimming youth development squad (YDS) to stay over at Edinburgh University’s Pollock Halls on the Friday and Saturday night. They then sat with the rest of the YDS throughout the competition.

Huge excitement for the Bo’ness ASC swimmers as the end of March approached. They knew it was the Scottish National Age Groups (SNAGs) being held in Sunderland, England for the first time. Swimmers travelled south on the 30th March to stay until Wednesday 4th April.  

The swimmers swam as F.I.R.S.T. (Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team). This is a regional swim team with the best of swimmers from Bo’ness Falkirk and Grangemouth swimming clubs. They are coached by Steven Tigg and the Age group squad by Monica Borland.

Duncan was one of 5 Bo’ness ASC swimmers who braved the cold on Saturday and Sunday 4-5th February to get to Cumbernauld. It was the start of the 2012 season of District competitions. Cumbernauld is a 25m swimming pool therefore short course.

Event 102 saw Duncan Scott in the 100 Back. In the final, Duncan took Gold with a Personal Best of 1.02.49

Saturday afternoon was Breaststroke for Duncan. The teenager made the finals and was faster than the heats. Duncan had a PB and Gold with 1.12.38.

Sunday 5th started at 7.55am with a one hour warm-up.

Scottish Swimming have now organised a Grand Prix which will be hosted by a different district as it moves round the country. Round 1 was held 14-15th January in East Kilbride in the newly refurbished 50m A listed Dollan Centre. The Dollan Centre houses Scotland’s first 50m pool. "The meets are primarily aimed at offering our best swimmers the opportunity to race against high quality opposition, at key periods of the competitive season," wrote Ally Whike, Director of performance with Scottish Swimming.

Competition was going to be tough. The first warm-up at 7.45am saw some of Bo’ness ASC best. First swim of the day for the boys was the 400 Individual Medley (IM) The fastest 12 would swim again in session 3 of the day starting at 5.30pm. Craig Knight was 1st Reserve with 14 year old team mate Duncan Scott as 2nd reserve.

Bo’ness Amateur Swimming Club had five swimmers competing as part of F.I.R.S.T. ( Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team) at the nationals. Some of the swimmers left on Wednesday 14th December to return after a superb 4 days of swimming. They travelled to Inverness one of few eight lane 25m pools in Scotland.

Day 2 - Duncan Scott (14) swam a 100 Fly. The morning over the younger swimmers returned for the afternoon session. This is under 14 for girls and under 15 for boys. Duncan Scott competed in the 400 Free. He had a 13 second PB and finished 13th having qualified in 34th place. His next event was the 400 Individual Medley. A 6 second PB and a 4th place.

The Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast was the focus for April. Duncan left Scotland in the middle of March for a couple of weeks in a holding camp in Brisbane. After a delay due to illness Duncan joined the team in the commonwealth games village. The Games opened on the 4th. Swimmers don’t go to the opening ceremony as they compete the following day. The snow for the Edinburgh International / British Championships meant the crowd was smaller than usual but the swimmers were there. They were conscious of the Australian trials for the Commonwealth Games taking place on the other side of the world. He swam the four disciplines of an IM – all looking good. Feb 2018

The main competition for February was BUCs (British Universities and Colleges Sport) He broke the 200 Free record and the Stirling team won the 4 x 100 in a new record time. He had a healthy time for the 200IM final too.

Jan 2018

Duncan spent several weeks in Perth Western Australia with Scottish team mates enjoying winter sun. They returned late January and were off to Luxembourg for the Euro Meet 26th-28th January. Duncan swam 49.51 in the 100 Free A final – finishing 4th He didn’t make the A final in the 200Free but swam faster than the A final Gold medalist with a 1.47.87 – a stunning time for the part of the year. He took silver in the 200 IM with 2.00.74. A great start to the New Year.

Dec 2017

A busy month competitions in Edinburgh and Copenhagen. Duncan took the 200IM title. He rested from a variety of swims knowing he had the Europeans a few days later. When you aren’t 100%, you know it. Duncan joined the 9 swimmers of the British team in Copenhagen for his first International Short Course competition. Day 2 he swam in the 200 Free. Nov 2017

Duncan is an ambassador for Scottish water and regularly appears at swimming pools to encourage children to swim. He appeared in the Scottish parliament to speak re the learn to swim programmes. We must not forget BUCs ( British Universities Short Course Competition) in Sheffield.

Announcement by British Swimming of those athletes to gain lottery funding for 2017/18. Duncan has again been fortunate to secure lottery funding. Duncan spent some of October in Flagstaff before returning to the UK. Team GB for European Short Course announced.

Award season The night of the 21/9/17 Duncan was through in Edinburgh to the EICC for the Team Scotland awards. We were delighted that sister Alexandria accompanied him.He was up against tough completion with Andy Murray, Calum Hawkins and Josh Taylor but the swimmer won the Male athlete of the year. Worlds Budapest Duncan swam at the British Championships in Sheffield in April and secured a place in the British team by swimming a new British record in the 100 Freestyle. His time had him ranked fastest in the world in 2017. (47.90) Duncan had a busy week starting on Monday 24th with the 200 Freestyle heats and semis in the evening.
