Glasgow 2014
... Another heading to Glasgow after yesterday’s announcement is Perthshire swimmer Duncan Scott, a pupil at Strathallan School.
The announcement was made following the phase 2 aelection meet at the North District Grand Prix at the Aberdeen Aquatic Centre last weekend, where Duncan, 17, won gold in the 100m free, beating Robbie Renwick, and silver in the 200 individual medley to secure his selection.
This great achievement follows on from a number of record-breaking swims over the past few years.
Commonwealth Team Selection
Duncan Scott has been nominated to Team Scotland for the Commonwealth Games.
Duncan has just returned from a successful meet at the North District Grand Prix. This was the last phase for Team Scotland selection.
He had a warm up race on the Friday night, the 50 fly. Saturday was the 200 Freestyle. He had everything to prove. Duncan didn’t make the A final at the British in April but posted a faster time than those Scots who did make the final in the Junior final. They were selected for Team Scotland although he is ranked 3rd in the country. No-one swam faster than his GB age group time of 1.49.88.
The following day he took silver in the 200 Individual Medley and Gold in the 100 Freestyle, demoting Robbie Renwick to silver, but proving he is the future for Scottish Swimming.
Duncan will next be competing at the British Gas International at the end of the month. 6-14th July he will be in the Netherlands competing for team GB at the European Juniors.
Alloa resident, Duncan has a swimming scholarship to Strathallan in Perthshire. He is coached by Steven Tigg (FIRST) and Elaine Johnston (Strathallan). Duncan has podium potential funding from the lottery and kit is supplied by Funky Trunks.
European Junior Championships team announced

A team of 23 elite junior swimmers has been selected to compete for the British Gas GBR Swimming team at the 2014 European Junior Championships in Dordrecht, Netherlands.
The team was selected following the recent British Gas Swimming Championships in Glasgow.
Taking place from 9-13 July, the European Junior Championships is an opportunity for younger athletes to compete on an international stage.
Promising Young Sporting Talent Selected For Mentoring Programme
Scotland’s ‘next generation’ of Commonwealth Games competitors and coaches have been unveiled today (Tuesday 29 April) as part of an exclusive sports programme.
‘Achieve 2014’ will mentor promising young athletes, using the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games as a learning experience and a springboard for their emerging talent.
Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) and Search Consultancy – Glasgow 2014’s official recruitment agency – have worked together to identify athletes from 20 Commonwealth Games sports.
British Gas Swimming Championships 10-15th April

Duncan Scott was back in Glasgow 3 days after completing the Scottish Gas National Championships. This was the second part of the Commonwealth games selection process for Scotland. It was also a competition that as a junior swimmer with podium potential he was expected to compete at and to hopefully pick up a place in the GB team for the European Juniors.
Friday he was in the 200 Freestyle ranked 18th at the start of the competition. Duncan swam a superb 1.50.47 and came 12th. Only the top 8 made the Open final. Duncan swam in the junior final and broke the GB age group record held by James Guy and Robbie Renwick’s nine year old Scottish Age group record in a fantastic 1.49.88. He became British Junior Champion and is now ranked no 3 in Scotland in the open age for 2014. His second race that morning was the 400 Individual Medleys. He did a commendable time and decided to not swim that junior final. His time in the heats was still faster than the winner, but 8seconds off his PB.
