With most leading swimming nations having put their only or main selection meet behind them and several countries having named significant squads for World Championships this August, SwimVortex marked its 2nd anniversary last month with the start of a series looking ahead to the summer showcase.

Who is shaping up for a knockout in Kazan?

Which teams are looking strong?

Where will thrill spill, upset sneak in, status be maintained and lost?

Day 1 - June 23rd and after a morning of heats the men’s junior swimmers make it through to the finals for the 4 x 100 Freestyle. They were seeded 5th after the morning heats.

swam the first leg and led from the first 50m. The boys never looked back. Martin Walton also swam under 50 seconds to maintain the lead. The Russians were always at their heals but third swimmer Speers kept his head and led before handing to Cameron Kurle who fought for home in a games record at the inaugural European Games.

This is only day one and the British Team has 3 Golds in their bag.

Day 1

June 23rd

After a morning of heats the men’s junior swimmers make it through to the finals for the 4 x 100 Freestyle. They were seeded 5th after the morning heats.

Alloa lad Duncan Scott the only Scottish swimming member of team GB swam the first leg and led from the first 50m. The boys never looked back. Martin Walton also swam under 50 seconds to maintain the lead. This is only day one and the British Team has 3 Golds in their bag.

Duncan Scott has been selected for Team GB for the World Championships in Kazan in July 2015. He will be the youngest male swimmer in a squad of thirty. Five from Scotland. He will join his Stirling University team mates Robbie Renwick and Ross Murdoch.

Earlier in the week the team for the inaugural European Games was announced. Duncan will travel to Baku and compete again for team GB.

The swimmers competing at the Arena Pro Series in Orlando concluded their competition with two golds in the men’s and women’s 4x100m Medley Relay.

Luke Greenbank, Calum Tait, Craig Bowman and Duncan Scott won the gold in the men’s event while the women’s squad comprised of Lauren Quigley, Abbie Wood, Amelia Clynes and Chloe Tutton.

Greenbank and Evans earlier in the session won bronze medals in the 200m Backstroke.

Hannah Miley won the bronze in the 200m Individual Medley and took silver in the 400m Freestyle and bronze in the 200m Breaststroke on day two of the competition.

Apr 2018

The Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast was the focus for April. Duncan left Scotland in the middle of March for a couple of weeks in a holding camp in Brisbane. After a delay due to illness Duncan joined the team in the commonwealth games village. The Games opened on the 4th. Swimmers don’t go to the opening ceremony as they compete the following day. Mar 2018

The snow for the Edinburgh International / British Championships meant the crowd was smaller than usual but the swimmers were there. They were conscious of the Australian trials for the Commonwealth Games taking place on the other side of the world. He swam the four disciplines of an IM – all looking good. Feb 2018

The main competition for February was BUCs (British Universities and Colleges Sport) He broke the 200 Free record and the Stirling team won the 4 x 100 in a new record time. He had a healthy time for the 200IM final too.

Jan 2018

Duncan spent several weeks in Perth Western Australia with Scottish team mates enjoying winter sun. They returned late January and were off to Luxembourg for the Euro Meet 26th-28th January. Duncan swam 49.51 in the 100 Free A final – finishing 4th He didn’t make the A final in the 200Free but swam faster than the A final Gold medalist with a 1.47.87 – a stunning time for the part of the year. He took silver in the 200 IM with 2.00.74. A great start to the New Year.

Dec 2017

A busy month competitions in Edinburgh and Copenhagen. Duncan took the 200IM title. He rested from a variety of swims knowing he had the Europeans a few days later. When you aren’t 100%, you know it. Duncan joined the 9 swimmers of the British team in Copenhagen for his first International Short Course competition. Day 2 he swam in the 200 Free. Nov 2017

Duncan is an ambassador for Scottish water and regularly appears at swimming pools to encourage children to swim. He appeared in the Scottish parliament to speak re the learn to swim programmes. We must not forget BUCs ( British Universities Short Course Competition) in Sheffield.

Oct 2017

Announcement by British Swimming of those athletes to gain lottery funding for 2017/18. Duncan has again been fortunate to secure lottery funding. Duncan spent some of October in Flagstaff before returning to the UK. Team GB for European Short Course announced.

Sep 2017

Award season The night of the 21/9/17 Duncan was through in Edinburgh to the EICC for the Team Scotland awards. We were delighted that sister Alexandria accompanied him.He was up against tough completion with Andy Murray, Calum Hawkins and Josh Taylor but the swimmer won the Male athlete of the year. Worlds Budapest Duncan swam at the British Championships in Sheffield in April and secured a place in the British team by swimming a new British record in the 100 Freestyle. His time had him ranked fastest in the world in 2017. (47.90) Duncan had a busy week starting on Monday 24th with the 200 Freestyle heats and semis in the evening.
