The Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast was the focus for April. Duncan left Scotland in the middle of March for a couple of weeks in a holding camp in Brisbane. After a delay due to illness Duncan joined the team in the commonwealth games village. The Games opened on the 4th. Swimmers don’t go to the opening ceremony as they compete the following day. The snow for the Edinburgh International / British Championships meant the crowd was smaller than usual but the swimmers were there. They were conscious of the Australian trials for the Commonwealth Games taking place on the other side of the world. He swam the four disciplines of an IM – all looking good. Feb 2018

The main competition for February was BUCs (British Universities and Colleges Sport) He broke the 200 Free record and the Stirling team won the 4 x 100 in a new record time. He had a healthy time for the 200IM final too.

Jan 2018

Duncan spent several weeks in Perth Western Australia with Scottish team mates enjoying winter sun. They returned late January and were off to Luxembourg for the Euro Meet 26th-28th January. Duncan swam 49.51 in the 100 Free A final – finishing 4th He didn’t make the A final in the 200Free but swam faster than the A final Gold medalist with a 1.47.87 – a stunning time for the part of the year. He took silver in the 200 IM with 2.00.74. A great start to the New Year.

Dec 2017

A busy month competitions in Edinburgh and Copenhagen. Duncan took the 200IM title. He rested from a variety of swims knowing he had the Europeans a few days later. When you aren’t 100%, you know it. Duncan joined the 9 swimmers of the British team in Copenhagen for his first International Short Course competition. Day 2 he swam in the 200 Free. Nov 2017

Duncan is an ambassador for Scottish water and regularly appears at swimming pools to encourage children to swim. He appeared in the Scottish parliament to speak re the learn to swim programmes. We must not forget BUCs ( British Universities Short Course Competition) in Sheffield.

Oct 2017

Announcement by British Swimming of those athletes to gain lottery funding for 2017/18. Duncan has again been fortunate to secure lottery funding. Duncan spent some of October in Flagstaff before returning to the UK. Team GB for European Short Course announced.

Sep 2017

Award season The night of the 21/9/17 Duncan was through in Edinburgh to the EICC for the Team Scotland awards. We were delighted that sister Alexandria accompanied him.He was up against tough completion with Andy Murray, Calum Hawkins and Josh Taylor but the swimmer won the Male athlete of the year. Worlds Budapest Duncan swam at the British Championships in Sheffield in April and secured a place in the British team by swimming a new British record in the 100 Freestyle. His time had him ranked fastest in the world in 2017. (47.90) Duncan had a busy week starting on Monday 24th with the 200 Freestyle heats and semis in the evening.
